Title: The delicacy of beauty
Medium: Dry Point Size: 17.5 x 12.5 cm In this piece the artist wanted to work with the same theme as her block print that was Beauty Myth/ Role of women. However, is slightly different. She made a rose symbolizing that women are all beautiful. The petals of the flower symbolize the delicacy and beauty of the flower. However, in the stem of the flower has thorns which every woman can be beautiful but strong. Thorns protect the beauty of the rose. Planning I was having trouble on deciding on which idea I wanted to make. I wanted to incorporate something natural and simple, something more easy to work on and not very detailed; but also something that will give out the message on what I'm trying to illustrate to other's. Process 1. First I sketched out my ideas for this piece, trying to organize and convince myself on which illustration I wanted to make. 2. I wanted to have the same idea as my block print for this project also. 3. I grabbed the template, of what I was going to work on and I taped it above my design. 4. I later grabbed the special tool for this project they were provided in the class. 5. I started working (scratching/or carving) with the tool on the template going over my design (drawing) it again. 6. When I finished drawing out the design in the template, I later started working on the inking process. 7. Finally, when the ink was on my template I rolled it out, on a special tool that was provided in class on a piece of paper. Artistic Inspiration My artistic inspiration for this piece was still art nouveau by Mucha. I really like how he made very elegant work and very precise. His use of very dramatic borders with flowers and designs made his artwork pop out and the use of his soft tones also made his work very beautiful. Meaning Behind The Piece The meaning behind my piece is the delicacy of the flower that attracts everyone but I also wanted to pay attention to the thorns that protects the flower from any harm. The flower resembles the women that we are all beautiful but we are also very protective. Reflection I really like how the final piece came out, but I also had complications during the process. During the carving process I really had difficulty on remaking the drawing again. When I tried to make the design I would go over the line and it was really hard to be on track. Also, on the printing process it was somewhat difficult, because it would be hard to get the ink out of the template on the spots I didn't want ink to show up on the final piece. What I like overall in this project it was that I had fun making the design and carving it out although it was a little difficult to do. |
