Planning
When we were first introduced into this project I had an idea what I wanted to do. I wanted to work either with the theme 'Love' how love makes everyone crazy for it. Also, I had in mind in working with a strong theme 'Abortion'. Abortion is something very controversial throughout society and I wanted to give a strong message in my piece. Process 1. First I started working with the butterfly, I started to outline the form of the butterfly with the wire. 2. Then, I added more wire in the body of the butterfly and the head to give that nice 3D effect 3. Later I glued the flowers on the wings of the butterfly 4. Then when I was finished working with the butterfly I started working on the hand 5. The hand was purposely little in order to represent a child's hand, so I worked with my little sister's hand in order to have the same size of it 6. At first I was wrapping the wire around her hand, but it just didn't work out 7. Later I took a picture of her hand so I could base off out of the picture 8. I started to outline the hand, the fingers and added more wire to make it 3D 9. Next I glued the stick onto the board where the butterfly was going to be and glued the butterfly in the stick 10. The hand was really heavy in order to stay standing alone without support so what I did I added two sticks inside the hand and glued them on the board. Meaning behind the piece The whole idea of this piece was to give a message about abortion. The meaning of the black wired hand almost touching the butterfly is suppose to represent a little kid's hand reaching out to the butterfly. The butterfly with flowers on the wings is known as life, the life that was taken away to the little kid's. I wanted to display a very powerful meaning about this specific topic. Life for me is something very sacred. Artistic Inspiration My artistic inspiration was not inspired by any specific artist but it's a surrealism movement that I wanted to work in this piece. Mainly because I wanted to give a twist in the piece in being able to display this message to the audience about this specific topic. I was inspired in doing the butterfly by Rene Magritte's painting "The large family". The use of color inside the bird is very calm and soft and the mood of this appears to be happy, however, in the background it's dark and the color is more dense and heavy more like a gloomy day and almost like a storm coming. Reflection I had difficulties while working on this project, such as making the outline of the hand and the fingers out of wire. It was very challenging for me to add wire and give that nice 3D effect to the hand. When I was working with my little sister in order to wrap the wire around her hand and have the exact same size and shape of her hand, it was really difficult for me because I had to make the wire loose around her hand because I was afraid of tightening the wire around her hand and also they were some sharp edges on the ends of the wire and it would poke her skin. What I did was take a picture of her hand to reference while I was working making the outline of the hand and shape. The butterfly it wasn't very challenging like the hand but it was just adding the right size of the flowers on the wings. |
