Planning
I wasn't satisfied with my self portrait that I did in my junior year, I wanted to remake it and show the progress I had throughout one year working with a big canvas and manipulating acrylic paint. When I see a big blank canvas, it tends to intimidate me by not touching it and simply be careful while I'm going to work with it. However, I overcome it by just simply organizing my ideas and set my mind on how I want to do my painting. What I did was to sketch my ideas for my background and take a many selfies of how I wanted to portray myself in this piece. For my last self portrait I didn't organize my ideas very well and for the picture someone took it for me. My main idea of how I wanted to portray myself in this piece was to show how cheerful or silly I am when it comes to responsibilities. Responsibilities are very boring and stressful, so I wanted to portray it as something I'm guilty enough to leave my responsibilities at the last minute, and to portray them as something fun and colorful instead of them being gray and stressful. This reminded me of the movies such as the Lion King their famous phrase "Hakuna Matata" and Alice in Wonderland surreal colorful objects and non stressful life in that land.

Process
First I built the canvas and gesso it, because the gesso was making it tight and due to its big, thin size the canvas was warping and by that time I was worried because if it dried up and the canvas was crooked then it would be a problem displaying my painting to the audience and painting on it. What I did I put the canvas on the shelf specifically for canvases and |

Inspiration
I was inspired by the distorted objects that happen in the movie Alice in Wonderland, but also by Salvador Dali’s famous piece Persistence of Memory, due to it’s melting clocks and objects that happen in his painting. I was also Inspired by Joan Miró’s Painting The Harlequin’s Carnival, by the overwhelming feeling and the use of everyday objects that appear in the painting. I incorporated a little detail from each of these paintings and movie.
Meaning Behind the Piece
The meaning behind my self portrait is how sometimes responsibilities can be very boring and limits the adventures and see the fun in this life. I portray myself ignoring foolishly the time and basically zoning out into my world. I added a distorted background to represent the transition between the real life and how I chose to ignore it by thinking “happy thoughts” or colorful memories I have experienced.
Reflection
Overall, I really loved the way it turned out to be. I can see the progress I had since my junior year and the middle of my senior year. I improved greatly in using the acrylic paint, and adding shade where it corresponds. The background was time consuming, the rose took me literally three whole hours to fill it in. I was getting impatient with it, but I just reflected that I wanted my final piece to come out professionally and clean.
