Title: "Far & Beyond"
Medium: Mixed Media+ Assemblage Size: 30cm x 30cm For this artwork piece the artist intentions were be able to display a strong message to the audience. The meaning of this piece is how one can learn and overcome obstacles in life. Obstacles are put in our way in order to grow and to see if its worth fighting for. Big or small don't let those problems stop you from trying. Learning from failures and from obstacles is the major key of learning, and gaining knowledge. Planning When I was introduced into this project, I had some ideas of what I wanted to do. There were many great artists and amazing artwork, but I was really overwhelmed with so many ideas I didn't know where to start. I planned out my ideas and started to sketch them out, adding details to a sketch and so on. Meaning behind the piece The meaning behind this piece is be able to display a visual representation of life obstacles. Big or small one can learn and grow from their experiences; and whenever it shows up again you'll be able to handle the situation with more knowledge. Obstacles are almost found in everyday life and each person has their choice to either try and learn from them or give up. Bird of wire: Strength, and confidence Wings: Wisdom, and freedom The cage: tries to capture the bird (Obstacle) Opening of cage: One Path or one exit for the bird to escape Nails in various sizes: Obstacles, problems big or small The bird represents one as going through an obstacle of being captured, as it shows it's escaping from being trapped and on the bottom of the cage there's more problems for the bird if it gives up. No matter how big or small the obstacle is, that shouldn't stop you from trying and in believing in yourself. Process |
Artistic Inspiration
My artwork piece is inspired by the "ready made" sculpture Why not sneeze, Rose Selavy? By Marcel Duchamp. He is known by his ready made artwork and using it as art. My art piece is different from Duchamp's because he works with functional or manufactured objects and I wanted to give it a twist by working with objects or pieces that are originally intended for other purposes or known as an assemblage. Duchamp's sculpture it questions a lot of viewers by what does he mean. Well just by the name Rose Selavy means 'love and sex', his sculpture it's more of adult like and has "love" meaning, but my art piece it's more motivational, and gives a positive message and also it's far different from Duchamp's meaning in this particular sculpture.

Reflection
Overall, I managed to explore new materials that I personally didn't think I was going to use for any project. At first yes it was challenging and annoying but throughout the project I got the hang of the materials and got to know them each day I worked with them. I really love this project, because I got to brainstorm a lot of ideas for my art piece and be able to connect the materials with a meaning. At first I didn't know how would I be able to connect a material and meaning. If I could make changes in working on my art piece it would be first try to wear gloves while managing nails, copper wire and wrapping the rope str4ing with wood glue on the balloon. Also, trying making wise decisions in deciding which kind of mixed media I wanted to do, I felt that I spent a lot of time deciding and doing research then actually getting my hands onto something. |
