Title: "Dreams"
Medium: Wood Size: 30.48cm X 30.48cm April 2016 The artist wanted to display an urban landscape of a city. The ideas of recreating the museum in Paris, France The Louvre into the piece, but also having that background of Milwaukee city. She also recreated the Milwaukee art museum, the meaning towards this piece was be able to display her childhood memories she had with her family and also the place she wishes to visit later in the future. Planning When they first introduced us this project I was really excited to work and build and get my ideas going. For this project I wanted to make an urban landscape of a city very modern and eye catching for the viewer. At first I was having trouble in getting ideas and how to start the actual project. However, I researched some photographs of actual urban landscapes and that's how I slowly started to get my ideas of incorporating some details of the buildings into one and so on. Later, on I started to sketched them out and manipulating my sketches in adding or taking off some details. Meaning behind the piece I grew up in Milwaukee, and I wanted to incorporate some buildings into my piece representing the memories of my childhood and also the happy memories I lived. When I was little I would go with my family to the art museum in the summer and look, explore the different paintings & sculptures they had; although I didn't pay fully attention to the paintings, but I like to go visit once in a while. Also, I wanted to give a twist in my city landscape in incorporating the figure of The Louvre. I did this because I always admired Paris since little and I would love to go someday and visit Paris and the different famous monuments it has. Basically the meaning of my artwork is remembering the happy memories as a child and also my dreams in the future. Process 1. Buy Wooden Canvas 2. Re-draw drawing (sketch) of the four lines with void into the canvas, then give to Mr. Chad for him to cut. 3. Brainstorm ideas for how your city is going to look like 4. Start gathering materials (buildings) that you're going to incorporate in order to start your city 5. Start glueing in place the buildings of where you want them in the panel. 6. Display your work on top a light box, to illuminate your city Artistic Inspiration I was inspired by Ferris' work, his architectural drawings and the design of his buildings were very modern like, and that's what I liked about his work. His sketches of modern buildings were very beautiful and abstract. His drawings were very detailed. I was mostly inspired by his architectural sketches of Metropolis of Tomorrow, the buildings were very modern looking. I also was inspired of the art museum building of Milwaukee and the museum The Louvre from Paris, France. Reflection Overall, the artwork was very easy to do I really like how I managed to work with different materials that I personally didn't think I was going to use. The process of creating the urban landscape was very easy once you already knew what you were going to put on the wood canvas. I had some difficulties in doing the center piece of my city display. I had to measure the wood dowels and later glue it; it was troublesome because the dowels sometimes fell when they were dry with the wood glue, so then I changed the glue and put hot glue instead. If I were to create or introduced a project similar like this one, I would feel comfortable using the materials and I would already have more ideas to be more creative. |
